Eight of the good people of the Hai — Rekapper, A Problem Like Maria, Flying Batteries, Snailhead, New Motive Power, Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack, Somnitone, and Mattir — are featured in this year’s The Best of /mu/ Vol. II.
With ‘Slew’ WGWGSA has created a work that pushes boundaries; the most enjoyable aspect is not only his ear for outstanding production as a producer but also some solid songwriting as a musician and his attention to the structuring of the album itself.
1. Take a picture or shoot a video of your songwriting process.
2. What’s the name of your WIP folder? music.
3. What is: (a.) the weirdest search hit on your Bandcamp’s Buzz stats, and (b.) the unlikeliest country hit on your Soundcloud’s play stats? Google India: Consequences of too much water in animals.
4. Name an artist that is always compared to you; though you don’t hear the comparison at all. I only ever get compared with The Fall, and I sound quite like them, so not an answer to this question.
5. Which artist would you like to be the opening act for? Which artist would you want to collaborate with? Frank Black Francis.
6. Which other the Hai member would you want to tour with (just one; pretend that it could only be a double bill)? Where would you tour? Mattir. We would tour Europe, roughly following the ebbs and flows of WW2. Mattir would headline the first half, playing in Berlin, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, France, etc.; all the way to Dunkirk. Then I would headline, eventually back in Berlin.
