How would you describe your “sound”?
APLM: We didn’t really know how to classify it. I personally just went with “IDM with vocals” since WGWGSA’s music is usually called IDM, and what I was doing was basically singing over his instrumentals. Some people have compared us to Portishead, but we don’t really hear it. A comparison I actually agree with is one my friend Jack brought up. He thought we sounded like soundtrack music from Ghost in the Shell.
Solo, I don’t really know. I love to experiment and challenge myself so when I do collaborations I usually adapt to the other person’s sound. By myself, I guess i would be… a little bit of R&B, a little bit of pop and a little bit of melancholy.WGWGSA: NOT PORTISHEAD. I can’t understand why so many people have independently told Maria and I that we sound like Portishead. I’d never heard of them before people started telling us that!
Solo, I’m a wannabe Aphex Twin with a guitar and a bad mic. (4-on-the-floor beats are for squares.)
